I've been such an idiot...
I should've been using LinkedIn Articles this whole time lol.
If you're a marketer or sales rep...
I'm sorry I took so long.
If you read this Article, I'm 99.99% sure it will lead to the most refreshing, idea-stimulating, intriguing content you've ever read on LinkedIn.
Today...
I'm disclosing "Copy Code Notes" to the public.
For the past few years, the Copy Code Notes have explored timeless copywriting concepts.
Throughout history... legendary marketers have used these enduring principles to transform hidden desires into action. Politicians, activists, and spiritual leaders have employed them to motivate the masses, and to drive change.
Until now, these Notes were only available via hard copy to a select few paid subscribers.
Each subscriber was certainly accomplished in his or her respective field. Yet, each reader was equally fascinated by the lessons in the Copy Code Notes.
Seems to me everyone in business will find them helpful. I could use a refresher on these concepts, myself.
So now, Copy Code Notes will be published via LinkedIn Articles.
2 quick promises for those who read them:
- These Notes will never be used to promote or sell. Period. That means hyperlinks will only lead to free resources. I don't want your money.
- Not one word of these Notes will be written by A.I.
We will begin with fundamental direct-response copywriting concepts.
You'll learn how to actively, critically, & strategically dissect what makes effective copy perform. And you'll learn the skill of crafting high-performing copy for yourself.
Every 4th Friday of the month...
I'll arm you with copywriting weapons that will invigorate your marketing mind.
I'll teach you to master the skills needed to craft unique positions for your brand.
And I'll show you how to develop an exacting Copy Code to twist words that command readers to action.
Now... I realize the internet is jam-packed with articles, videos, and templates to help you with copy but...
Every new "4-Step System" to write "copy that sells" contradicts the last. And most of the actual best books on the subject are Textbooks. Long, convoluted, and painfully dull.
In my Copy Code Notes, I'm going to dispel all the misinformation about Copy tricks, techniques, and tools sold all over the internet.
For example:
- Most marketers don't understand the difference between Market Awareness vs. Market Sophistication (or know how to use them to hack the copywriting process).
- Everyone's talking about Marketing "Angles." But no one really understands what Marketing Angle actually means. People think they're "testing" different angles. In reality, they're doing a whole bunch of nothing.
- Can you create Urgency without a 'time limit' or 'limited quantity' shown on the offer page? Copy Code 101: You can't create Urgency. You have to 'tease' it out.
- Get real split test results. Short Copy vs. Long Copy. Content vs. Direct Response. Variation A vs Variation B.
Plus:
- How an "Offer" is NOT a Marketing Strategy
- Why you DO WANT negative reviews
- When it's better to use a VSL, a Podcast, or a Webinar
Copywriting in marketing is like Coding in web development. It doesn't matter how small the error may be in the Code. Even the tiniest mistake can break a whole website.
If you read my Notes, I promise to teach you to use the simple art of copywriting to achieve 3 simple tasks:
- Capture market share from competitors by strategically "de-positioning" them from your prospect's minds
- Channel and direct suppressed mass market desire toward your products/services
- Fascinate prospects with stories that subconsciously demand them to take action
Copy Code Notes Origin Story & Philosophy
Every word of these Notes is inspired by one main idea...
It's a unique perspective on Copy you've likely never considered before.
In the early days of spring 2021, when the night air still held a chill in Alpharetta Georgia...
A sudden flash of insight burst into the mind of a brilliant media buyer (my roommate at the time, Brandon). In that instant, seized by a mix of laughter, surprise, and mild confusion, he declared:
"Copy in Marketing is like Coding for a Website!"
It made perfect sense to me.
Think about it.
Beneath every beautifully designed, easy-to-use website...
Lies a code written by a web developer. A "programming" code.
The programming code speaks "computer." It's responsible for communicating instructions to the computer. It specifies how the website should look and function.
The code communicates precisely.
If written correctly, the computer has no choice but to generate whatever colors, images, and buttons the web developer wants.
Similarly, beneath every successful piece of marketing...
Lies a code written by a copywriter. A "copy" code.
This "Copy Code" speaks "human." It's responsible for stimulating, engaging, and persuading the human. It influences how the human will act.
This "Copy Code" also communicates precisely.
If written correctly, the human has no choice but to be compelled and inspired to click, sign up, or buy whatever the copywriter wants.
Good marketing carefully guides the prospect through a persuasive journey.
It uses evocative language, hypnotic storytelling, and emotional triggers to resonate with their desires and pain points.
It addresses objections, builds trust, and ultimately...
Drives the prospect to take a specific action.
Where most people just see good marketing...
Most marketers see good copy.
But I want to help you see the "Copy Code" behind it all.
Because without a sound "Copy Code," your marketing will not perform well, long-term.
The secret behind every successful marketing campaign—the ads, the landing page, the buyer experience, the emails—is strong copy.
Copy that looks pretty and sounds nice will fail if the underlying "Copy Code" was not constructed properly.
Out of all the profitable marketing skills to invest time, money, and energy in learning…
There is no doubt in my mind that the simple skill of Copywriting is the only one worth mastering.
So let's master it. Together.
